The vision

Picture yourself in this story.

It is now January 2015. I am standing outside my house in Mt Waverley. I pull out my phone and open the CocoRide app. I type in ‘Melbourne CBD’ and see a list of 20 drivers on their way to the city. I tap on the top one because we have two mutual friends and he has a 5 star safety rating. I accept the $3 fee for the ride and click “Request ride”. Soon afterwards, I get a notification: James is on his way to pick me up. I can see his car on the map coming closer to me. Five minutes later, he pulls up and I jump in the car. We have a great chat on the way in. We’re both runners and talk about a race we both did.

At the end of the trip, I thank James and give him a 5 star feedback rating in the CocoRide app. He was a safe driver and made pleasant conversation. As luck would have it, that was my 20th ride that month. That meant I unlocked the hitch-hiker badge! CocoRide are now going to send me a sticker in the mail that I can put on my laptop! Woohoo!

I went onto the cocoRide website that night and checked out the leaderboard. After getting the badge I thought I must be doing pretty well. Sure enough I was the #1 ridesharer out of all my friends. Sweet! But I was only #1070 internationally:O Geez some people are ridesharing freaks!

That got me thinking: how many people are using CocoRide anyway? I jump onto the stats page: 1,003,020! Woah! Over 1 million members! Geez this company has come far! I remember when their first event only had 16 people use the site.
